What Cleans a Vinyl Bathtub?
- A gentle cleaning with a powdered dish detergent will clean the bathtub to remove light dirt and stains. A mixture of 3/4 cup of detergent with 1 gallon of warm water creates a simple cleaning solution for use on all areas of the bathtub. Once you combine the ingredients, stir them gently to prevent suds from forming. Apply the cleaning solution to the bathtub with a non-abrasive sponge and gently scrub the tub. Let the solution rest on the surface for 15 minutes, then rinse with clean water.
- White vinegar restores shine to the bathtub, removes odors and dissolves hard-water stains. Spray the vinegar directly on the surface of the tub and allow it to rest for 10 minutes. While you don't need to rinse white vinegar, you do need to dry it once you are finished. If you have difficult stains to remove, soak paper towels in vinegar and place them over the stains. Let the paper towels sit overnight, then wipe the bathtub with a damp washcloth or sponge. You can also combine an equal amount of white vinegar with baking soda to create a paste to apply on the stains. Scrub the stains with a toothbrush and rinse the bathtub with clean water.
- When working with chlorine bleach, always ventilate the bathroom by turning on fans and opening windows. Chlorine bleach effectively kills dangerous bacteria and mold on the surface of vinyl bathtubs. Prepare a chlorine bleach solution by combining equal amounts of chlorine bleach with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the vinyl bathtub and let it sit for 15 minutes. If you notice tough stains on the bathtub, scrub with a soft-bristled brush. After applying the bleach solution, rinse the tub immediately.
- Always dry your vinyl bathtub immediately to prevent mold and mildew from forming. Don't use abrasive cleaners on the tub because they will scratch the surface. A regular cleaning every two weeks helps prevent dirt and buildup. Avoid using paint thinners or acetone on the surface of the bathtubs because they can ruin the material. When you notice scratches on the bathtub, buff them with automotive wax and a soft washcloth. Don't apply the wax to the floor of the bathtub, because it can become slippery and dangerous.
