- 1). Create a mixture of distilled water and liquid laundry detergent. The website Pacific Heights Cleaners recommends using 1 part detergent with 5 parts water.
- 2). Use a cloth or similar item to spread the cleaning solution over the ketchup stain on the couch. Tap, don't scrub, when applying the solution to avoid accidentally spreading the stain.
- 3). Saturate the brush in the cleaning solution. Tap the bristles over the stained area of the couch. Wait five to 10 minutes before proceeding.
- 4). Soak a clean cloth in the distilled water. Tap the stained area of the couch with the cloth to rinse off the cleaner.
- 5). Dry the couch by patting down wet areas with a dry cloth. Proceed to step 6 if any stain remains.
