- 1). Remove everything from the refrigerator and set it aside in boxes or plastic bins. While doing this, inspect everything you take out for signs of mold and check expiration dates. Discard any moldy or expired food.
- 2). Remove any shelves that will come out and place them in the sink to be washed.
- 3). Mix equal parts chlorine bleach and warm water in a bucket.
- 4). Brush away mold with a medium bristle brush onto a piece of newspaper and fold it up so that the loose mold spores cannot get out. Dispose of the newspaper immediately in an outside trash can to get it out of your home.
- 5). Dip a clean cloth or sponge in the bleach water and wipe down the entire inside of your refrigerator, being sure to pay extra attention to areas where food or condiments may have leaked or spilled and caused sticky stains.
- 6). Rinse the refrigerator with a damp cloth dipped in clean water.
- 7). Wipe the inside of the refrigerator out with a clean, dry towel to remove the excess moisture.
- 8). Wash the racks that you took out of the refrigerator with warm soapy water, and dry them off before putting them back. If they have mold on them, brush it away with the brush and clean the area with the bleach and water solution.
- 9). Put all of the food back into the refrigerator once it is both clean and dry.
