How Do I Remove a Drum on a Maytag Neptune?
- 1). Unplug the Maytag Neptune dryer power cord from the dedicated dryer wall receptacle. Open the dryer door and remove the screws connecting the front panel to the shroud behind it with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The screws are at the four corners of the door lip opening.
- 2). Close the dryer door and grab the sides of the front panel 6 inches from the top. Pull back on the front panel to disengage the upper clips. Lift the front panel to disengage the lower clips and set the front panel to the side.
- 3). Locate and disconnect the wires connections for the door switch, light and moisture sensor near the top of the front shroud. The shroud is the piece of metal that attaches to the front of the side panels and the front of the dryer drum rides on the inside rim. The wire connections disconnect by pulling the ends apart with your fingers.
- 4). Remove the four screws connecting the front shroud to the sides panels with a nut driver. Pull the front shroud away from the dryer. Reach under the left side of the drum with your left hand and locate the idler pulley. The idler pulley is next to the motor and moves on a spring arm.
- 5). Pull the idler pulley to the left while removing the belt from the motor pulley and idler pulley with your right hand. Let go of the idler pulley slowly after removing the belt.
- 6). Grab the drum from the front and back with your hands and pull it out of the dryer, bringing the belt with the drum.
