How to Get Stains From Under Your Fingernails
- 1). Mix 10 parts water with one part bleach in a small bowl. The water will dilute the bleach, making it less potent and less likely to cause an allergic or adverse reaction on your skin.
- 2). Place the tip of a cotton swab in the bleach water, and allow it to soak up the solution. Cotton swabs work better for longer nails. If your nails are short, use an orangewood stick that has a cotton tip on it. You can find it in the nail care section of most stores or at a specialty shop such as Sally's. It has a flatter tip that will allow you to clean the tighter space underneath shorter nails.
- 3). Rub the cotton swab gently on the stain underneath your nail. Continue rubbing until the stain begins to disappear.
- 4). Wash your hands thoroughly in soap and water, to remove any traces of the bleach solution from your hands and fingers. If the stain is still apparent, apply the bleach solution again.
