    • 1). Prepare a bucket of water mixed with a mild detergent. Soak a cleaning brush in the solution and begin scrubbing the offending paint form the fieldstone foundation. This method is effective on acrylic and latex paints, which do not permanently stain natural stone.

    • 2). Apply a commercial latex paint remover to quickly remove small quantities of latex paint from the fieldstone. These environmentally safe products effectively dissolve cured latex paint from virtually any surface with a simple spray-on application.

    • 3). Use a putty knife or paint scraper to loosen as much dried oil or enamel paint as possible from the fieldstone. This eases removal before applying a stronger solvent.

    • 4). Proceed with an industrial paint stripper for removing especially thick or aged paint. Apply the liquid formula according to the manufacturer's instructions for properly treating dried paints.

    • 5). Continue to scrape the dissolving paint from the fieldstone after you allow the paint thinner to set for the instructed waiting period. Lightly scrub the remainder with a scouring pad or steel wool. Be careful not to apply excessive pressure that could mar the surface.

    • 6). Rinse the fieldstone with a garden hose to remove the excess paint and chemicals. Allow the foundation to air dry and it will be restored to its original condition.
