How to Make a Braid for Your Keychain

104 8
    • 1). Cut each lanyard cord into a three-foot-long segment. Hold both cords together at one end and insert them into the key ring. Bring the other ends up and hold them together with the first two ends. Slide the key ring down to the center point of the two cords, at 1 1/2 feet. Hold the ends of each cord in one hand and with the other, tie them into a knot to secure them on the key ring. Pin the key ring to your pants with a large safety pin or hook it to the end of a table with a clothes pin.

    • 2). Separate the cord ends and lay them out so that they are running parallel to each other. Position the cord ends so that there is a left, mid-left, mid-right, and right cord end. Start braiding by taking the right cord end, passing it under the mid-right and mid-left end and over the left end. Pull the cord ends tight. Move the left cord end under the mid-left and mid-right ends, and over the top of the right end.

    • 3). Continue braiding by first moving the right end cord under the middle two and over the left end, then moving the left cord end under the middle two ends and over the right end. Tighten after each pass of the cords. When you reach the ends of the cord, hold two ends in each hand and tie them in a double knot. Trim the ends to make them even.
