    • 1). Cut the triangular tops off of both milk cartons. Trace the square bottom of one of the milk cartons on a piece of construction paper using a pen. Replace one of the tops with the piece of cardboard you traced.

    • 2). Cut one of the empty milk cartons in half. Cut it from top to bottom, leaving an empty rectangle resembling a hollowed-out craft such as a canoe. Glue the other side of this milk carton onto the other milk carton. Make sure the sides that you glue together are both long sides with nothing cut out from them.

    • 3). Paint the two milk cartons the color you want the boat to be. Use oil-based paint since it tends to last longer than water-based paint. Give the paint 24 hours to dry.

    • 4). Paint the windows onto the boat using black ink. Riverboats have a distinctive design, with two or three levels, or tiers, of seating and each level having several windows. Draw lines vertically down the two milk cartons to create the levels. then draw rectangular squares on each floor to represent windows.

    • 5). Make three back-end propellers out of tin disks. To make these propellers, make four incisions into metal aluminum disks (if you can't find aluminum disks at your local grocery store, just cut circular disks out of aluminum foil). Fold each of the incisions upward so that they stick out like propeller blades.

    • 6). Attach the three propellers to the body of the riverboat using a straw. Poke a hole in each propeller, then stick a straw through the whole. Attach the other end of the straw to the boat by taping it up and then putting a piece of tape along the bottom of the straw and the milk carton. Reinforce this piece of tape with more tape, then repeat for the other two propellers.
