How to Build Your Own Ice Cream Push Cart

104 2
    • 1). Contact your state's office to inquire about the proper permits or permission required to have an ice cream cart business. Purchase permits required before starting the business.

    • 2). Find a used push cart at a local garage sale or used-items store. Make sure the size can easily fit the portable freezer unit. If you cannot find one, then build a cube out of plywood sheets in the size desired. Add four wheels by attaching them with screws and a screwdriver. Add hinges to an additional piece of plywood and attach it to the cube to create a lid.

    • 3). Plug the portable freezer unit into an outlet to charge. It should be fully charged every day to keep the freezer cool enough for the ice cream. Remove the portable freezer from the push cart daily to recharge if there is no hole in the push cart for wires.

    • 4). Place dry ice in a paper bag while wearing protective gloves. Place the bagged dry ice in the freezer unit. There should be about 3 pounds of dry ice per every cubic foot of space in the freezer to keep the ice cream cool and fresh. It will also keep the ice cream cold even after your freezer unit is drained of power. Wrap the appropriate amount of dry ice for your freezer cart.

    • 5). Cut the cardboard to make a sign for the push cart. Paint it with pictures of ice cream cones and sundaes or however you like and include the prices.

    • 6). Name your ice cream service; "Bob's Ice Cream Cart," for example. People will remember you when you revisit areas.

    • 7). Place your ice cream into your ice cream push cart.

    • 8). Place the thermometer into the push cart. Check the thermometer regularly when you are out selling ice cream during the summer. If the temperature gets above 5 degrees Fahrenheit, find an outlet so the portable freezer unit can charge.

    • 9). Keep your change and receipt book out of the freezer. Have it in a pouch or pocket and keep it separate from the ice cream.
