Open iTunes.

Connect the iPod Touch to your computer using the supplied iPod Touch USB cable.

Select the iPod Touch within iTunes. "Set Up Your iPod Touch" will appear. If this option does not appear, click "Restore" to restore the device's firmware; once restored, the iPod Touch will reboot and display the "Set Up" screen. If you have previously used this iPod Touch with this computer, you have the option of restoring from a backup.

Select "Set Up as New iPod Touch" (or select the backup file) and click "Continue." Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the device and sync your media. Once set up with iTunes, you are no longer stuck on the "Connect to iTunes" screen and have full access to the iPod and its applications.
