What Is Needed for HDTV Surround Sound Movie Viewing?
- You need multiple speakers for a surround sound system. For a 5.1 surround sound system setup, you will need two front speakers, two rear surround speakers, a center speaker unit, and a subwoofer that sits on a stand or the floor.
- Place your center speaker directly above or below your HDTV. The rear surround speakers should rest behind the viewers, pointed at an angle toward the TV. The front speakers should rest in line with the center speaker, angled toward the audience. The subwoofer should sit somewhere in the room.
- You will need an audio/video receiver if you intend to have more than an HDTV connected to your surround system. Plug your DVD player, HD player, cable box, and any other equipment into the receiver for surround sound viewing. Connect the speakers to the receiver.
