How to Make a Tile Trivet
- 1). Choose ceramic tile at a building supply or hardware store. Tiles come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, styles and colors. Some are expensive, but if you're on a budget, lovely inexpensive tiles are easy to find. If you prefer, you can use two or four smaller tiles for your trivet instead of one large one.
- 2). Cut a piece of wood slightly larger than your ceramic tile. Sand the wood until smooth and wipe it with a soft, damp cloth.
- 3). Finish the sanded wood with at least one coat of polyurethane varnish or enamel paint. Allow the wood to dry completely.
- 4). Use an electric glue gun or heat-proof craft glue to attach the ceramic tile to the center of the wood. You also could paint a layer of polyurethane varnish over the tile to protect it.
- 5). Attach at least four pieces of self-adhesive cork to the bottom of the tile trivet to protect your table surface. If you prefer, you can cut a piece of felt to fit the bottom of the trivet and glue it securely.
