How to Record Cable Phone Calls
- 1). Hook up your telephone to your cable service as directed by your cable service provider.
- 2). Plug one end the telephone handset cord into the telephone handset. Plug the other end of the telephone handset cord into the recording adapter's phone jack.
- 3). Insert the telephone cable, which is connected to the recording adapter, into the handset phone jack on the side of the telephone cradle.
- 4). Plug the stereo cable, which is connected to the recording adapter, into the Line In jack on your computer (skip Step 5). Or if you prefer to send the phone's audio to a tape or CD recorder instead of a computer, plug the stereo cable into the stereo jack on the stereo to RCA male adapter.
- 5). Connect the adapter's red RCA cable to the red RCA jack on the back of the tape or CD recorder. Connect the adapter's white RCA cable to the white RCA jack on the back of the CD or tape recorder.
- 1). Open the Start menu. Type "sound recorder" in the "Search" box. Click "Sound Recorder" in the search results to launch the "Sound Recorder" application.
- 2). Pick up the telephone handset to answer or make a phone call. If you are making a phone call, dial the phone number of the party you want to speak to.
- 3). Click the "Start Recording" button in Sound Recorder when you are ready to begin recording. Click "Stop Recording" when you are ready to end the recording. A "Save As" dialog box will open.
- 4). Enter a name for your recording in the "File name" box. Open the "Save in" drop-down menu. Navigate to the directory where you want the file to be saved. Click "Save."
- 1). Turn on the tape or CD recorder. Insert a blank audio cassette tape or CD disc into the tape or CD recorder.
- 2). Pick up the telephone handset to answer or make a phone call. If you are making a phone call, dial the phone number of the party you want to speak to.
- 3). Place the recorder in active record mode when you are ready to begin recording. Generally this is accomplished by pressing the "Record" and "Play" buttons together.
- 4). Monitor the record meter levels as you carry on your conversation. Adjust the level as needed. Ideally the level should bounce around 0 dB.
- 5). Press "Stop" on the tape or CD recorder when you want to end the recording.
