- 1). Lay a square piece of paper flat in front of you. Start with the eventual outside of the paper face-up. Fold each corner in toward the center of the paper to create a diamond.
- 2). Turn the paper over and fold in the four new corners toward the center of this side. Turn the paper over again and repeat the corner folds, making an increasingly smaller diamond. Turn the paper over again.
- 3). Open the top corner of the diamond by pushing it upward with your thumbs. Press down the creases firmly. Spin the paper around so that the section you just opened is pointing downward; open the new top corner in the same manner as you did the first.
- 4). Gently fluff the lantern. Attach the lantern to a bamboo lamp base. Use only a low- or no-heat bulb with your paper lantern lamppost.
