Camera Used in Cloverfield
- The camera you see in the final scenes of the movie is the Panasonic AG-HSC1U, a small professional high-definition camera. Most of the movie is meant to have the look and feel of coming from this consumer camera.
- The Panasonic AG-HVX200 was also used for the making of Cloverfield. While being a professional camera, it was used for most of the non-special effects scenes throughout the film. In 2009, it was named as one of the five best HD cameras for independent filmmakers by technology website Obsessable.
- The Sony CineAlta F23 high-definition camera was used to shoot the New York exteriors. "We needed the look of the movie to be very immediate, like 'found footage,' so a YouTube aesthetic was the look we were trying to achieve," said Nick Theodorakis, digital-imaging supervisor for Cloverfield. "The F23 provided latitude without sacrificing any color imagery, allowing us to stay as strict to reality as possible while generating that warm look of New York City's streets with its sodium vapor lights."
