    • 1). Check the packaging that the cable comes in. A manufacturer will list cable features prominently on the packaging in an attempt to entice consumers into choosing their brand over others, so it is not unusual to find packaging labeled with a specific HDMI version.

    • 2). Read the manufacturer or the reseller's description of the HDMI cable on their website. Most manufacturers provide detailed specifications for their cables -- and this is particularly true of the more expensive brands. Information will include the cable's rated speed and data throughput, as well as the HDMI version it is designed to support.

    • 3). Check the cable itself, if possible. Most cabling is imprinted with the manufacturer's information and the basic specifications of the cable, including its length and version number.
