How to Attach Face Frames to Cabinets
- 1). Use your screwdriver to remove the cabinet doors and take off the hinges and knobs. Lay out the door on a work surface.
- 2). Measure the width of the first door along its upper edge. Transfer that measurement to a piece of prefinished flat trim, using your pencil and tape measure to make two marks with the measured distance between them. Set the two marks along the upper edge of the trim.
- 3). Lay the trim on your miter saw with the front side facing up and the marked top running along the saw rail (so it faces the blade). Slide the piece so one of the marks is in front of the blade. Swivel the blade to point 45 degrees inward, toward the center of the piece. Cut it.
- 4). Slide the trim so the second mark is in front of the blade. Turn the blade to 45 degrees in the opposite direction (so it is again pointing inward). Make the cut.
- 5). Spread wood glue over back of the cut trim piece, covering the whole surface. Press the trim to the cabinet door, so the top of the trim is lined up along the upper edge of the door, and the two mitered cuts are angling downward and inward.
- 6). Repeat for each of the three other sides of the door, measuring and cutting them each separately and then gluing them in place so the mitered ends are butted against each other in the corners.
- 7). Repeat the whole process for each door. Let the glue set for 12 hours. Reassemble the cabinets.
