How to Apply Tile Trim in a Shower
- 1). Tile the shower walls with your field tiles, letting them set over night. Don't grout them.
- 2). Measure to find the middle of the horizontal top row of the tiles. Put a mark at the middle.
- 3). Use your putty knife to spread thin-set mortar over the back of a trim tile. Set the trim tile along the top edge of the tiled portion of the wall, on one side of the mark at the middle, positioned with the finished edge of the tile facing out away from the shower stall. Put tile spacers under the trim tile, to properly space it from the tile wall.
- 4). Mortar and hang the rest of the trim tiles in the same manner, putting spacers between each of them. Cut the tiles at the ends on a tile cutter, as needed.
- 5). Let the tiles dry overnight. Remove the spacers.
- 6). Grout all the tiles at once (trim tiles and field tiles), applying grout over the tiles with your grout float and forcing it into the spaces between the tiles. Wipe off the excess grout with a damp sponge.
