How to Build a Wooden Audio Rack
- 1). Place the two pieces of 18-by-32-by-¾-inch plywood on a worktable. Make marks from one end at ¾, 10 ¾, 11 ½, 21 ½, 22 ¼ and 31 ¼. Put the framing square on the marks and draw lines across the 18-inch width of the plywood.
- 2). Drill pilot holes between the lines and at the top and bottom of the 18-by-32-by-¾-inch plywood with a 1/16-inch drill bit. Drill countersink holes on top of the pilot holes with a countersink drill bit. Make the countersink holes no deeper than 3/8-inch deep.
- 3). Apply wood glue to one of the edges of the 18-by-18-by-¾-inch plywood. Secure the four pieces of 18-by-18-by-¾-inch plywood between the two pieces of 18-by-32-by-¾-inch plywood with 1¼-inch drywall screws. Clean up the excess glue with a damp cloth.
- 4). Fill the countersink holes about halfway with wood glue. Insert the screw hole buttons and tap them gently with a hammer if needed. Clean up excess glue with a damp cloth.
- 5). Cut the veneer edge band to fit the sides of the wooden audio rack (back and front) with a utility knife. Heat them with the iron while you hold them against the edge of the wooden audio rack. Let it hang over the outside of the audio rack. Sand the pieces with a sanding block and 100-grit sandpaper.
- 6). Fold the part of the veneer that hangs over the audio rack with the sanding block. Apply a little pressure to the outside corner of the edge with the sanding block to remove the excess veneer. Cut pieces to fit on the shelves and apply them in the same manner.
