    • 1). Inspect door and window frames and jambs to see if they are flush with the wall. Use a plane to trim down any protrusions.

    • 2). Install trim around your windows and doors first. Cut corners at a 45-degree angle using a miter saw or a miter box and a fine-tooth hand saw. Attach the molding with wood glue and finish nails.

    • 3). Install wall trim next. Use a stud finder to locate the studs, and mark stud locations along the area trim will be installed. Attach wall trim with wood glue and finish nails. Nail trim into every stud.

    • 4). Make open, 45-degree miter cuts to join to sections of trim along a flat part of the wall. Nail and glue the seam. Use nails close to one side of the seam so that the nail goes through both pieces of trim. Measure trim so seams meet over a stud, and nail these connections into the stud.

    • 5). Make closed, 45-degree miter cuts to join outside corners. Nail and glue the seam. Nail on both sides of the seam.

    • 6). Make coping cuts to join inside corners. Cut one of the pieces with a straight cut. Trace a cutting line along the backside of the adjoining piece using a scrap piece of molding as a guide. Make an angled cut with a coping saw. Carefully following the cut line along the face of the trim. Angle the coping saw slightly so more wood is removed from the back side of the trim. Adjust the fit by sanding.

    • 7). Attach the molding with wood glue and finish nails. Nail into the studs.
