How to Patch a Crack in a Concrete Floor in the Basement

    • 1). Widen the crack with the hammer and chisel so it is at a width of 1 inch. The interior of the crack should be wider than the edges.

    • 2). Wet the crack and the surrounding area with the hose for an hour.

    • 3). Clean up excess water with the vacuum. Use the wire brush to clear away any dust or debris in or around the crack

    • 4). Mix the dry concrete and the water in the bucket to form the concrete patch, This patch should feel like very thick mud.

    • 5). Place the patch in the crack using the putty knife. Smooth out the top of the patch so it is even with the existing floor.

    • 6). Let the patch dry for an hour. After that, cover the patch with the tarp or a piece of wood for five days. Thoroughly wet the area under the tarp or wood once per day and to clean up excess water with the vacuum.
