How to Repair a Damaged Frame Caused by an Attempted Entry on a Door
- 1). Peel away the weatherstripping held in the groove of the door frame.
- 2). Use a putty knife or small pry bar to remove the caulking and door casing from the frame.
- 3). Use a circular saw to cut away the damaged part of the door frame and remove the wood jamb.
- 4). Use a chisel to remove all the remaining wood left by the circular saw.
- 5). Use a putty knife to push any leftover insulation back between the gap of the framing, if necessary.
- 6). Use a measuring tape to measure the width and length of the frame to determine the size of the replacement wood.
- 7). Use a circular saw to cut the replacement wood to your desired width and a miter saw to cut the wood to your desired length.
- 8). Push the new piece of wood into place where the old wood was located.
- 9). Inspect the framing to be sure that the gap between the door and frame are accurate.

Use several 2-inch finish nails to secure the door frame in place. - 11
Use 3-inch deck screws to install the latch and deadbolt striker plates on the frame. - 12
Use silicone acrylic latex caulk to fill the frame joints. - 13
Use several finish nails to reinstall the door casing. Paint or stain the new frame if desired.
