    • 1). Use your pencil and level to make a horizontal line over the length of the wall, at the bottom, at a height of 16 1/4 inches off the floor.

    • 2). Mark a vertical line through the middle of the wall, from top to bottom, so it intersects the horizontal line.

    • 3). Spread tile adhesive over the length of the wall at the bottom, between the floor and the horizontal line.

    • 4). Press the first 16-inch tile in place under the horizontal line, alongside the vertical line at the center.

    • 5). Twist the tile a little as you set it to the wall, to get a tight seal in the adhesive, then straighten it against the horizontal line. There should be a ¼-inch space between the bottom edge of the tile and the floor.

    • 6). Press additional tiles to the wall, under the horizontal line, putting spacers between the tiles as you go. Use a tile cutter to cut the tiles at the ends of the row.

    • 7). Spread more adhesive above the line, and set the next row of tiles in the same manner, starting from the middle and working to the sides. Repeat course by course, building up to cover the whole wall.

    • 8). Allow the adhesive to set overnight. Remove the spacers.

    • 9). Spread grout over the wall starting at the top, using a grout float. Scrape over the surface of the tiles with the long edge of the float to press it into the gaps between the tiles. Wipe up the residual grout with a damp sponge.
