How to Put Solid Flooring on a Porch
- 1). Lay out your deck boards face down on an open work area. Brush primer over the back and sides of each board. Let the primer dry for 24 hours.
- 2). Measure the porch across all the joists. Use a miter saw to cut a deck board at that length.
- 3). Lay the cut board along the inner edge of the porch so the grooved side faces the house. Leave a half-inch space at the wall. Shoot galvanized nails through the face of the board, putting in two of them at each point where the board crosses a joist.
- 4). Cut a second plank to size. Lay it next to the first plank, locking them together at the sides by their tongue-and-groove fittings. Shoot one nail through the side of the board at an inward angle at each place where it crosses a joist.
- 5). Repeat the process, cutting each new plank and securing it in place alongside the previous one. Build across the whole porch. Use a table saw to length-cut the final piece if needed to make it fit.
- 6). Install trim around the perimeter of the porch floor, covering all the edges. Paint the floor with deck paint.
