How to Make Pinch-Pleated Sheers
- 1). Measure the length and width of the window. Measure the width from the edges of the molding and multiply this number by two. Measure the length from the curtain rod down to where you would like the sheers to end.
- 2). Cut a piece of fabric to this measurement. Add 2½-inch extra to the length and 1 inch to the width.
- 3). Fold ½ inch of fabric on three of the four edges to make a smooth edge for the sheers. Leave one width edge unsewn. Sew the smooth edge in place and iron the fold to lay it flat.
- 4). Fold over 2 inches on the remaining rough edge, and sew it in place to make the top of the sheers.
- 5). Cut a piece of self-pleating tape to the width of the panel, minus ¼-inch on each end, and pin it approximately ½-inch below the top of the wrong side of the panel.
- 6). Sew the pleating tape to the panel. Sew along the long top and bottom edges of the pleating tape.
- 7). Insert the three prongs of one pleating hook into the first three pockets in the pleating tape.
- 8). Continue inserting pleating hooks into the pockets in the pleating tape along the width of the sheer panel. The pockets are situated every ¾ inch on the pleating tape. You can space the pleats apart by leaving one pocket empty for every ¾-inch gap you would like in between the pleats.
