- DAP Blacktop Asphalt VOC-Compliant Filler & Sealer should be applied at temperatures above 50 degrees when there will be no humidity, rain, snow or freezing temperatures for 24 hours after you apply it. The product is used to repair cracks in masonry or bituminous paving. Make sure the crack and areas around it are clean and free of grease, oil and dirt. A broom or blower can be used to remove mud and dirt. Load the tube into the caulk gun and trim the tip so the bead size is wide enough to fill the crack in a single pass if possible. Puncture the foil seal and squeeze the trigger repeatedly until the asphalt repair compound appears at the tip. Make a slow pass the length of the crack while squeezing the trigger so that you fill the crack with sealant. If necessary, use a putty knife to even the application. Allow it to cure for 24 hours before allowing traffic on the area.
- DAP Bondex Liquid Asphalt Crack Filler should also be applied at temperatures above 50 degrees. Again, the crack and areas around the crack should be clean and free of grease. Shake the bottle before you open it to make sure the mixture is evenly mixed. Be sure to wear rubber gloves and safety glasses when applying this product. Snip the bottle nozzle and pour the liquid into the crack until it beads up slightly above the top of the crack. Fill the crack to the end. Smooth the sealant with a putty knife, small trowel or scraper with long smooth strokes. Don't overwork the sealant. Allow the sealant to dry for 24 hours. If it shows shrinkage, add another bead of filler over the first, smooth flat and allow to cure for another 24 hours.
- If you store either of these products, make sure they are kept in an area that stays warmer than 40 degrees. Cleanup is easy. Both products can be cleaned with soap and warm water.
