How do I Care for a PB Hardwood Floor?
- 1). Sweep or vacuum your hardwood floor a few times a month. Sweeping or vacuuming will help remove dirt, dust and pet hair. If you are using a vacuum on your hardwood floor be sure to use the soft bristle floor attachment, this will prevent scratching the hardwood. If you are using a broom be sure it has soft bristles or use a broom that offers a disposable electrostatic cloth, like the "Swiffer" broom.
- 2). Mix one gallon of warm water with half a cup of white vinegar into a bucket. Use a dust mop, the cotton head will help to attract dust and dirt. Mop your hardwood floors a few times a month with the water and vinegar mixture. The mixture of water and white vinegar is an inexpensive cleaner that works well on hardwood floors to prevent streaking and color distortion. Do not use hot water as it may damage the floor. Do not soak the floor, large amounts of water can warp the hardwood if the water has time to settle and absorb into the wood.
- 3). Dry your hardwood floor with a dry mop or towel. If an area seems to dry fast on its own you do not need to dry that area. Be sure to dry areas where water may settle into a puddle tol reduce the chance of the hardwood absorbing too much water.
- 4). Wax your hardwood floor. If you have a newer floor you most likely will not need to wax your floor as most newer models have a no-wax finish. If you have old fashioned hardwood floors then you will need to apply a solid paste wax every few years. Put a blob of wax on a lint-free cloth and wipe the wax into the hardwood. Always rub in the same direction as the wood grain.
