How to Insulate a Sliding Door

104 40
    • 1). Keep the sliding glass door track clean. It is very easy for pebbles, rocks or clumps of dirt to get stuck in the track when people are coming in and out of the house. If even a small amount of any of these substances gets lodged in the track, the door will not completely close and will be letting precious air out of the house.

    • 2). Caulk around the edges of the door. Caulk provides amazing insulation and ensures that the seams between the drywall and door are not leaking any air. Properly caulking theses areas can also improve the overall aesthetic appeal of your home. If your door has existing caulking, make sure it has not cracked or peeled away from the surface in any spots.

    • 3). Purchase insulated drapes, cellular blinds or blackout curtains. These products are essential in blocking potential energy loss from radiating through your sliding glass doors. Insulated drapes also play a large role in keeping warm or cold air (depending on the season and whether you are using air conditioning or heat) inside the house.
