How to Fix or Repair a Carpet

    Wrinkled Carpet

    • 1). Remove the articles from the room before fixing carpeting that has wrinkled. Vacuum the carpet in order to reduce the amount of dust and carpet fibers that can kick up during repair.

    • 2). Set a carpet stretcher 6 inches away from the wall where the carpeting has lifted off the tackless strips. Extend the carpet stretcher so that it reaches the opposite corner of the room and presses against the wall. Set the carpet stretcher to its deepest level.

    • 3). Press the lever of the carpet stretcher, so that the teeth grab the carpet and extend it over the tackless strips. Release the lever of the carpet stretcher, which will force the carpet to retract and attach to the upright teeth of the strip. Place the stretcher 18 inches away from the initial stretching if an entire wall has lifted from the strips. Replace furniture when carpet has been reattached.

    Carpet Stains

    • 1). Blot at stain if it is still wet with a white towel. Mix up 4 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Pour mixture in a spray bottle.

    • 2). Spray stain with mixture and place a white towel over the stain. Weigh down the stain overnight with some books on the towel. Lift up the towel in the morning and the check stain.

    • 3). Repeat the above steps if stain is still evident. If it has disappeared, vacuum the carpet to fluff up carpet fibers.
