How to Drain Water From Low Grades in a Lawn
- 1). Determine the best location for the trench. The trench should run from your home or other structure that's being threatened by the buildup of water about 20 feet.
- 2). Use a trencher to dig the hole for the PVC pipe. The PVC pipe should be buried at least 6 inches underground. Factor in an extra inch for gravel.
- 3). Cover the base of the trench with about an inch of gravel.
- 4). Insert a 4 inch diameter PVC pipe into the trench on top of the gravel.
- 5). Dig a large hole for the drywall at the far end of the trench. It should be several feet larger in diameter than the drywell.
- 6). Add several inches of gravel to the bottom of the hole. Insert the drywell, and then surround it with gravel.
- 7). Connect the PVC piping to the dry well. Cover both the well and all the piping with dirt to conceal the trench. With this system, the water will drain away from the low grades in your lawn.
