- 1). Remove the screen door from the door frame by unscrewing the hinges with a screwdriver.
- 2). Place the screen door on the floor with the top of the door against a wall to help keep the door square.
- 3). Pry the old spline out of the channel in the door starting at a corner. Once several inches has been pried out, grasp it with your hand and pull out the rest of the spline. Take a piece of the spline with you to the hardware or home improvement store to ensure you purchase the proper spline for the door.
- 4). Cut a piece of new screen big enough to overlap the hole in the door by two or three inches. Use a utility knife to cut the screen.
- 5). Lay the screen evenly on the door and press the spline into the channel over the screen. Start at a corner and ensure that the spline is stretched out to avoid it bunching up. A spline tool is used to make it easier to install the spline. As you install the spline, keep the screen stretched flat so it does not wrinkle.
- 6). Slice off the excess screen from around the edges using a utility knife. Reinstall the door onto the frame.
