How to Finish Tile Floors
- 1). Remove the tile spacers from between the tiles on the floor using a small screwdriver or utility knife.
- 2). Clean out dried thinset mortar from between the tiles with a utility knife. For a beautiful and strong grout line, it is important to have clean tile joints before starting. Vacuum the tiles and tile joints when you have finished.
- 3). Mix the grout into a bucket per manufacturer's directions. Once mixed, the grout should be the consistency of peanut butter. Do not mix the whole bag of grout at once, as it is difficult to use that much grout before it begins to dry out, even if you need all of it for your tile floors. Simply mix more halfway through the project as needed.
- 4). Use a rubber grout float to squeeze the grout into the tile joints. Make sure all of the tile joints are filled completely.
- 5). Move the rubber float diagonally across the tiles to remove the excess grout from the tile. Allow the grout to sit for 30 minutes.
- 6). Wipe away the grout haze from the top of the tiles with a slightly damp sponge. Allow the grout to dry for 24 hours.
- 7). Apply grout sealer to the grout joints with a paintbrush. Wait for the sealer to sink into the grout per manufacturer's directions.
