How to Install Laminate Floor Around Doors

    • 1). Clean the floor thoroughly using a broom and dust pan.

    • 2). Remove any doors in the room by unscrewing the hinges using an electric drill and a Phillips head screwdriver bit.

    • 3). Cover the entire floor with the underlayment padding, butting the edges up against the walls. Use a razor knife to trim the padding to size. Cover every seam in the padding using duct tape.

    • 4). Lay a plank of the laminate flooring flat on the floor up against the door jamb. Run a pencil across the top of the laminate, transferring a line onto the jamb. Repeat for all the door jambs in the room, and then cut them to size using a hand saw.

    • 5). Vacuum up the sawdust up.

    • 6). Lay 1/4-inch spacers one foot apart along the entire perimeter of the room against the walls and any immovable objects in the room, such as islands. This creates the required expansion gap that all laminate floors need to expand and contract with temperature changes.

    • 7). Lay the first complete row of laminate along one wall, working from left to right. Keep the laminate pressed up against the spacers as you go to make sure the rows stay straight. When you get too close to the wall to lay another full plank, measure from the wall to the edge of the laminate and subtract 1/4 inch. Transfer that measurement to a full plank of laminate with a pencil and cut it to size. Continue laying rows of planks until you come to a door.

    • 8). Lay the entire row that will go up to the door until you get too close to the door jamb to lay a full plank. Lay a plank of laminate in place but don't connect it. Make a mark where you will need to trim the laminate to allow it to fit under the door jamb. Cut the laminate where needed. Lay the laminate in place and continue the floor.
