- 1). Clean the floor around the baseboard to be removed. Take out any furniture; sweep the floor and mop if the area is particularly dirty. Of most importance is removing any hair from people or animals.
- 2). Look for loose areas in the existing vinyl baseboard from which to start the removal. Use a heat gun set to the medium setting and slowly begin moving the gun across a small 3- or 4-inch area of the vinyl. Do this for approximately 30 seconds, and stay back about 3 inches from the vinyl to avoid melting it.
- 3). Force a large putty knife gently between the wall and the vinyl as you work to remove the vinyl. When it is removed, use the heat gun again to melt any glue residue left on the wall and again use the putty knife to scrape this off.
- 4). Unroll a sufficient length of new vinyl to begin placing. Choose a location of the wall that will best hide the seam. This can be under a cabinet, behind a piece of furniture or in a corner. Peel the paper backing off the vinyl for a length of about 2 feet. Adhere the vinyl to the wall, pressing lightly to get a smooth bond.
- 5). Continue laying the vinyl baseboard, peeling back the paper as you go until the room is complete. Try to hide any seams as best as possible and get the joints tight together. Go back around and smooth the vinyl again to make sure it is securely affixed to the wallboard.
