- 1). Measure the width and length of the heat pump to determine the coverage area needed for the cinder blocks, for example; 32 inches wide and 32 inches long.
- 2). Pour crushed gravel onto the ground at the spot where the heat pump will be located, covering an area roughly the dimensions of your heat pump (in this example, 32-by-32 inches). The pump must be placed within connecting distance of the building. Gravel helps level the surface and also improves drainage.
- 3). Arrange the cinder blocks over the gravel so that the two holes in each block face upward. For a 32-by-32 heat pump, set two rows of four cinderblocks each together on the ground. The long end (16 inches) of two blocks set end to end will equal 32 inches. The short end (eight inches) of four blocks in each row also equals 32 inches (8 x 4 = 32).
- 4). Recruit friends to help lift the heat pump onto the cinder block platform. Orient the unit so the connection panel faces toward the building.
