How to Apply Silicone Caulk
- 1). Clean the area to be caulked with the rag and water.
- 2). Cut a small piece of the end of the nozzle on the tube at a 45-degree angle. Cut just enough to let a small amount or bead of caulk exit the tube when squeezed.
- 3). Load the caulking tube into the caulking gun with the nozzle away from the trigger.
- 4). Hold the caulking gun at an angle to the crack to be filled with caulk. Gently squeeze the trigger while pulling the gun down along the crack. Move the gun at a steady pace to allow a steady bead of caulk to fill the crack. Work at a pace of about 3 to 4 inches at a time and release the trigger and pull it again.
- 5). Repeat step 4 until the entire crack is sealed.
- 6). Gently run a clean, damp rag down the crack with the caulking in it to force the caulking down into the crack and seal it from side to side.
- 7). Use a small amount of turpentine and the rag to clean up any silicone around the crack or other areas, if necessary.
