How to Repair an Uneven Sticky Tile Floor
- 1). Purchase matching tiles for the floor or find leftover tiles from when the tile was installed.
- 2). Apply heat to the old tiles with a heat gun. While the glue under the tile is warm, push a 4-inch putty knife beneath the tile to pry it up and remove it. Scrape as much glue from the plywood as possible with the putty knife.
- 3). Fill in the uneven areas of the floor with a cement floor-patching compound. Trowel the compound over the cracks, holes, or divots in the floor and let it dry per manufacturer directions.
- 4). Sand raised areas on the subfloor floor with fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe away the sanding dust with a damp cloth.
- 5). Install the replacement tiles to the repaired floor. Remove the paper backing from the tiles and press them firmly in place.
