How to Heat Water to Very High Temperatures
- 1). Read the manufacturer's instructions for your pressure cooker. Since pressure cooking is potentially dangerous, familiarize yourself with the directions first. If the manufacturer's instructions differ from the steps outlined below, follow the manufacturer's instructions since some devices may have specific guidelines.
- 2). Add a small amount of water to the pressure cooker together with any food you want to heat.
- 3). Close the lid and select a pressure setting, then lock the lid in place so the gasket forms a seal. The manufacturer's instructions will tell you how to lock the lid on your model.
- 4). Light the burner (if it's a gas burner). If the stovetop is electric, turn it on and set the pressure cooker on the burner.
- 5). Monitor the pressure on the cooker. At some point the pressure will reach the setting you selected; once it does, turn down the heat and set the time for your recipe (if you are cooking food). Some pressure cookers will have a safety valve that opens to release excess steam at high pressures.
- 6). Remove the pressure cooker from the stovetop and allow it to cool to room temperature before opening.
