How to Lay Vinyl Flooring on Concrete
- 1). Clean and dry the floor.
- 2). Snap together two or three of your vinyl planks, end to end, and set them on the floor next the wall where you want to start the flooring. Put plastic shims between the boards and the wall, to create a small space that will allow minor floor movement.
- 3). Snap more planks to the ends, building the course out toward the side walls. Cut the end pieces as needed, by running a utility knife alongside a carpenter’s square to score it, then snapping it at the line.
- 4). Set the next row of planks alongside the first row, snapping them together at the sides. Repeat for each new course. Position each course so that it’s staggered with the course before it. Cut the ends of the boards as needed to fit.
- 5). Build across the whole floor in courses, until you’re approaching the ending wall. Use you razor knife and square to cut along the lengths of the boards for the final course, to make them fit alongside the wall with a small gap there.
- 6). Measure and cut your floor trim to go around the edges of the floor, installing it with your hammer and trim nails. The trim will cover the spaces at the sides and pin down the edges of the floor.
