How to Calculate a CM Wall From Cubic Yards to Tons

104 32
    • 1). Refer to a list of recorded values available, such as the Penn State document under "Resources," to determine the material's density. For example, if you are building a concrete wall, note that concrete has a density of 150 pounds per cubic foot.

    • 2). Convert the wall's volume to cubic feet by multiplying by 27, the number of cubic feet in a cubic yard. For example, if the wall has a volume of 2.5 cubic yards, multiplying it by 27 gives a volume of 67.5 feet.

    • 3). Multiply the wall's volume by its density to determine its weight. Continuing the example, multiply 67.5 by 150, for a total of 10,125 pounds.

    • 4). Convert the wall's weight into tons. Dividing 10,125 by 2,000, the number of pounds in a ton, gives you 5.0625. The wall, therefore, will weigh just over five tons.
