How to Cut an Outer Corner in Crown Molding
- 1). Set the miter saw blade to a 45-degree left-facing angle.
- 2). Measure the wall where the first side of the outside corner of the molding will be installed. Transfer this measurement to the crown molding with a pencil.
- 3). Set the crown molding upside down on the miter saw. Adjust the crown molding so the top of the molding touches the miter saw table and the bottom of the molding touches the miter saw fence. The molding should look as it would if you were installing it on the ceiling, only upside down. Hold the crown molding in this angle with your free hand.
- 4). Cut the crown molding to size with the left 45-degree left-facing angle. This is the first piece of the outer corner.
- 5). Measure the wall where the second side of the outer corner of the molding is to be installed. Mark the measurement on the crown molding with a pencil.
- 6). Set the miter saw blade to a 45-degree right-facing angle. Set the crown molding in place on the miter saw. Again, the molding should be upside down and at an angle. Cut the crown molding to size.
- 7). Nail the outside corner pieces of crown molding to the wall with a nail gun.
