How Do I Install Trim and Dividing Angles?
- 1). Set your angle gauge into the first inside corner, (this will be your ``starting corner''). Move the two arms of the gauge to sit flat against the two walls, to see what the angle is. A perfectly square corner will read 90 degrees.
- 2). Choose a piece of trim longer than the wall, from the starting corner out on one direction. Set the trim on the miter saw in the same position it will be on the wall. Set it so the miter blade is a few inches from the edge that will be in the starting corner.
- 3). Turn the blade in toward the main span of the trim, at an angle half that of the corner angle that you found. For example, if the corner angle was 88 degrees, swivel the blade to 44 degrees. Cut the trim.
- 4). Repeat the process for the wall coming off the other side of the starting corner. Cut the miter on the second piece at the same degree angle, but in the opposite direction.
- 5). Measure from the starting corner to the end of the walls in each direction. Mark each of the two boards at those measurements. Use your angle gauge to find the angles at the far ends of each of the two boards. Cut those angles on your miter saw.
- 6). Repeat the process for each piece of trim going around the edge of the floor. Make sure the miters are tight in the corners, then secure each piece of trim by shooting nails with your trim nailer along the top and bottom edges of each piece, every 10 to 12 inches.
