How to Attach Wood Trim to Steel Studs
- 1). Move a stud finder across the wall. Place a pencil mark at each location the stud finder signals a stud.
- 2). Hold a length of wood trim against the wall. Mark each stud location on the exposed side of the trim.
- 3). Pull a tape measure across the width of the trim. Mark the center of the width on the front of the trim at each stud location.
- 4). Drill a 9/64-inch hole at the intersecting points of the centerline and the stud location.
- 5). Hold the trim against the wall. Align the stud marks on the wall with the marks on the trim.
- 6). Push the pointed end of a 2 1/4-inch fine-threaded trim screw into one of the drilled holes.
- 7). Secure a square-drive adapter in the chuck of a drill motor.
- 8). Tighten the screw with the drill. Run a screw into each drilled hole to attach the wood trim to the metal studs.
