Tips for Inserting a Bead Into Crochet
- If you have already chosen what yarn you would like to use, it is best to pick beads with holes that are big enough for the yarn to be threaded through them. Alternatively, you could use beads that are smaller and thread the beads on one or two strands of the yarn, but this will make the beads more likely to come loose.
- The yarn weight and strand width will influence what type of beads you can use. A lighter weight yarn will most often be able to hold smaller beads than heavier, thicker yarn. To test whether a bead will fit on your yarn, take a scrap of the yarn to the store to compare the beads available.
- Before you begin your project, estimate how many beads you will be using. Then you can thread the appropriate number of beads in the order you want to use them on the starting yarn end. To ensure that the beads are not in your way as you work, pull the yarn through all of them so there is about a foot of yarn between where you will work the first rows and the beads.
- When you are about to complete the stitch where you would like the bead, bring it up along the yarn up to the hook and continue working the row. You can also choose to not thread the beads first and insert them as you go, cutting the yarn a few stitches before you will use the beads, threading the beads and then continuing the row until you get to the appropriate stitch.
