- 1). Ensure that the surface of the concrete is relatively level. Fill large gaps in the concrete with firm sand or concrete compound. Interlocking decking tiles can withstand height differences of up to three-eighths of an inch between adjacent surfaces. Sweep the concrete surface to remove all dust and debris.
- 2). Measure the area to determine how many decking tiles are needed to cover the desired space. Typical decking tiles are 12-inch squares, but always be sure to check the exact measurements provided by the manufacturer.
- 3). Lay the first of the decking tiles at the corner of your concrete surface. Once you have it properly positioned, align the second tile with the first and snap it into place using the special connecting tabs along the side of the tile. Continue laying the decking tiles in this manner until the concrete surface is completely covered.
- 4). Cut the decking tiles as needed with a jigsaw or handsaw. Draw a template of the shape needed to go around the obstacle on cardboard before attempting to cut the decking tile. Secure the template to the tile and use the handsaw to cut out the proper shape.
- 5). Install reducer strips along the edges of the outermost tiles. These thin, matching strips snap directly into the connectors along the edge of the decking tiles. Choose mitered reducer strips for the corner decking tiles. Once these finishing touches have been added, your concrete will be refreshed with decking material.
