How to Install Vinyl Floor Tile With Arrows on the Back of the Tile
- 1). Clean the floor with a broom and dustpan to remove any debris. The surface must be flat and clean for proper tile installation.
- 2). Apply two coats of primer on the floor with a long-handled wallpaper roller. Dilute the first coat with half water and half primer then use full-strength primer for the second coat. This process provides a smooth surface for laying tile.
- 3). Draw diagonal lines across the floor by marking the installation area with a chalk line snapped from two corners to the opposite corners. The two lines should cross in the middle of the room.
- 4). Decide which direction the tiles will lay. Set the first tile on the floor over the place where the two chalk lines cross. Check that the tile is set so that the chalk lines pass through the center of each edge of the tile, with the arrow facing the direction you chose.
- 5). Remove the paper backing from the first tile and set it on the chalk lines where they intersect. Push down with a dry sponge trowel to set the tile and remove any air bubbles underneath.
- 6). Remove the paper backing and place the tiles, one by one, around the center tile with the arrow on the paper facing the same direction as the arrow on the first tile.
- 7). Use tile nippers to cut tiles, as needed, when you reach the walls.
