How do I Insulate a House Against Ground Transmission of Noise?
- 1). Push the end of the attenuation insulation roll up into the space between the floor joists, starting at one end of the cavity. Then push a wire hanger up between the joists at 90 degrees to the insulation so that the ends of the wire dig into the sides of the joists.
- 2). Push more insulation into the cavity, and install a second wire hanger--space the wire hangers eight inches apart. Continue in this fashion until the entire cavity has been filled with insulation. At the end of the cavity, cut the roll of insulation (if necessary) with scissors. Continue on to the other areas between the floor joists, until the entire floor has been insulated.
- 3). Run a bead of acoustic sealant caulk along all four sides of the room where the walls meet the sub floor. Also, if there are any cracks or holes in the sub floor, or if there are any gaps between pieces of sub floor, fill them with the caulk.
