DIY Concrete Block Aquarium Stand
- 1). Locate a level spot, preferably next to a load-bearing wall to support the weight of the stand and aquarium, and close to an electrical outlet to accommodate the wiring for the aquarium.
- 2). Measure the outside dimensions of the aquarium and use the skill-saw to cut out a piece of the ply-board that extends at least one inch beyond all sides of the base of the aquarium. The aquarium will rest on this piece of plywood.
- 3). Cut the 2-by 2 inch boards to the same length as the plywood base.
- 4). Paint the plywood and the 2 by 2 inch boards. Paint the concrete blocks while taking care to thoroughly work the paint into the porous surface of the blocks. Allow everything to dry for one day.
- 5). Cut pieces of heavy paper to fit the size of the blocks, measured on the side of the block with the holes.
- 1). Place pieces of the paper on the floor where the concrete blocks will rest. Place one block to form a leg of the stand for every two feet of the required length of the stand. Place the concrete blocks on their side, with the holes facing down, on the paper.
- 2). Continue to place blocks on top of each other until reaching the desired height. Stack no more than four blocks high for purposes of stability. Take care to place the blocks exactly on top of each other so that they line up perfectly.
- 3). Lay the 2 by 2 inch boards across the top of the blocks, one on each end of the blocks, to form a support for the ply-wood base. Lay the plywood evenly on top of the two pieces of 2 by 2 inch boards. Make certain all pieces of the stand line up perfectly.
- 4). Place the unfilled aquarium on top of the stand and test for stability. Fill the aquarium and enjoy.
