How to Hang a Fire Extinguisher in a Cinder Block
- 1). Refer to local fire safety codes, which are located on the Internet or at a local building inspector’s office, to get the exact height specifications for the fire extinguisher placement.
- 2). Attach the hanging bracket to the fire extinguisher and hold it up to the cinder block wall. Measure from the floor up, making sure that the fire extinguisher hangs at the required height. Trace around the hanging bracket so you'll know exactly where to hang it on the wall.
- 3). Disconnect the hanging bracket from the fire extinguisher and place it inside the traced line that you made on the cinder block. Place the tip of a masonry bit through an allocated slot in the hanger and drill a hole slightly deeper than the screw fastener. Continue drilling through each pre-drilled slot.
- 4). Slide the hanger out of the way of the drilled holes and slip the plastic toggles' tapered ends through them. Tap on the back of the toggles with a hammer as needed to fully secure them inside the holes.
- 5). Place the hanging bracket over the inserted toggles and align the allocated slot to the correct toggle. Insert screws into each toggle and thread them using a screw gun set at a slow speed to prevent stripping. Use a screwdriver if you don't have a screw gun.
- 6). Hang the fire extinguisher on the bracket and check the measurements to make sure that the placement complies with the safety codes.
