    • 1). Cut 1/2-inch wide strips of newspaper. The amount needed for each pumpkin jar will vary depending on the size of the jar and the amount of overlap for each strip. Start with cutting one newspaper page into strips and add more as needed.

    • 2). Cut the 1/2-inch paper strips into 3-inch lengths. This will make each strip easier to apply and manipulate around curves.

    • 3). Mix white school glue and water in a small bowl until it is the consistency of milk.

    • 4). Lay a sheet of plastic wrap on your work surface. Stand a jar right side up in the center of the wrap.

    • 5). Dip a newspaper strip in the glue mixture. Hold the strip over the bowl and slide the strip between two fingers to remove the excess glue. Place the strip on the surface of the jar and smooth it flat with your fingers.

    • 6). Apply additional strips over the jar's surface, overlapping the edges and positioning them in different directions. Cover the jar all the way to the top edge of the rim. Do not cover the bottom of the jar. Allow the paper and glue to dry.

    • 7). Apply three more layers of paper, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly before the next is added.

    • 8). Paint the entire paper surface using white acrylic paint. This coat will serve as a primer to cover or lessen the appearance of the printing on the newspaper. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 9). Paint the entire surface using orange acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry. Apply a second coat for complete coverage.

Paint the paper surface of the jar's rim using green acrylic paint. This is the pumpkin's stem. Allow the paint to dry. Apply a second coat for complete coverage.

Mix brown acrylic paint with water until it is the consistency of ink. Apply the paint mixture to the painted surface of the jar using a sponge brush. Immediately wipe it off with a paper towel. This application is aging the pumpkin colors.

Cut three 18-inch lengths of raffia. Hold the raffia strips together. Wrap them around the rim of the pumpkin jar and tie the ends into a knot.
